who deemed the time was ripe to join forces in professionalizing the field of Equine Facilitated Learning. Since then, thousands of people from all over the world have taken workshops at Epona, with Linda or one of the many Approved Instructors her year-long apprenticeship program has produced since its start in 2002.

Tabula Rasa, Linda Kohanov’s black Arabian mare who set the Epona train in motion so many years ago, played an important part for Sanna in rediscovering her musical gift. On the Epona website you can read the story of the life and passing of this remarkable mare, and listen to the music that sprung from the experience: A Tribute to Tabula Rasa

The Epona approach

The Epona approach is not a horse training method, although certain aspects of it will inevitably lead to a deeper understanding and more balanced relationship between human and horse. Rather, one could almost say that the Epona approach is a method for training humans, and as such, one that works with the horse as a teacher and guide. It is based upon the physical, emotional, relational and spiritual qualities of the horse, and on how we as humans can learn to use these qualities as a means for living a more balanced and fulfilling life, in harmony with ourselves, Mother Nature, and the people and animals around us. Key concepts are the information behind emotions and body sensations, activating the authentic self, maintaining healthy boundaries, non-verbal communication, non-linear consciousness and skills for creating an authentic community. Globally, over 160 Epona Approved Instructors use active and reflective ground work and mounted sessions with the horses, as well as creative and musical expression, body and breath work, and forms of shamanism, yoga and meditation. Through this way of experiential learning, people from all over the world are integrating the Epona principles effectively into their daily lives.

Workshops

Epona Introductory Workshop - May 5/6, 2012

In this introductory two-day workshop we will explore the Epona principles in active interaction with the horses and each other. Emotions and body sensations as information, activating the authentic self, the power of intuition: we will find that these are not mere abstract concepts, but very real skills that horses naturally possess.
