Why experiential learning?

synapse in human body

Experiential learning is, as the term suggests, a way of learning through experience. Nerve cells or neurons in our brain communicate with each other through connections we call synapses. Every possible behavior, thought or pattern has its own specific pathway through these synapses. When we exercise this behavior, thought or pattern frequently, the associated neural pathways become neural highways, and connections between unused synapses fade, like an overgrown trail through a forest that nobody has used in years. We can create new neural pathways through creating and repeating new experiences, causing behavior to ‘stick’ and become second nature. By abandoning the old neural pathway, it will fade and with it, the behavior.

Horses are experts in offering new, correctional experiences. Their supportive and comforting presence helps us transform emotional patterns and dysfunctional behavior.

Workshops

Epona Introductory Workshop - May 5/6, 2012

In this introductory two-day workshop we will explore the Epona principles in active interaction with the horses and each other. Emotions and body sensations as information, activating the authentic self, the power of intuition: we will find that these are not mere abstract concepts, but very real skills that horses naturally possess.
