Why music?
Music, like everything else around us, consists of vibration. It can have a substantial influence on the atmosphere in a room or a group of people. Everybody has at one point or another experienced how powerful music can be in evoking emotions: joy, sorrow, melancholy, ecstasy. The use of mantras and chants in various yoga traditions, drumming in shamanism, but also psalms that are sung in churches and even the entrancing music creating euphoria at a dance festival, even among those who are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, are common examples of this phenomenon.
That is why music, and the voice in particular, is an important tool for expression, experience and healing at Horses & Heart Songs.
Everybody can sing, or at least learn to use their voice. When you are singing, when you are using your voice, it can be a way of taking your place in this world. Using your voice can be a powerful way to increase your confidence and reclaim your inner strength. By learning to use your voice with awareness, you are also stimulating yourself to breathe deeply: you need that breath to voice yourself!
The vibrations coming from your vocal chords and the awareness of your breath create a noticeable relaxing and releasing effect when you learn to regard your voice as a healing instrument.
Singing, and especially singing together, is really about listening. When you’re singing alone, you have to listen to the music you’re singing to, the melody you are going to sing, and to your own voice as you are singing it. While singing together in a group, you have to listen to each other to know where the other person is, but you have to listen to your own voice at least as well, because you need to keep singing your melody, and not somebody else’s. At the same time, when there is someone in the group who is singing your line of melody with you, you can get support from each other.
Thus, singing becomes a powerful metaphor for group dynamics and reflects the way we express ourselves in this world.

Workshops
In this introductory two-day workshop we will explore the Epona principles in active interaction with
the horses and each other. Emotions and body sensations as information, activating the authentic self,
the power of intuition: we will find that these are not mere abstract concepts, but very real skills
that horses naturally possess.
